Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation.

The UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a digital travel authorization that allows eligible travelers to enter the United Kingdom for tourism, business, or transit purposes without a visa for stays of up to 6 months.

Citizens of countries that currently enjoy visa-free travel to the UK will need to apply for an ETA. This includes citizens of EU countries, the United States, Canada, Australia, and many other nations.

The UK ETA is valid for multiple entries over a two-year period or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. Each stay can be up to 6 months.

Most applications are processed within 72 hours, with many completed in less than 24 hours. We recommend applying at least 3 days before your planned travel date.

You will need a valid passport with at least 6 months validity, a digital photograph, an email address, and a credit or debit card for payment.
